The call for papers for the 2016 Southeast Regional Meeting has been issued. The meeting will take place on October 23-26, 2016 in Columbia, SC with the theme Catalyzing Chemical Changes.  Dr. Scott Goode is the Program Chair.

Details, including names and contact information for program and session chairs, can be found on the meeting website at http://sermacs2016.org/. The final program summary will be published in C&EN in the Fall; the online program will be available on September 19, 2016.

SERMACS 2016 is headlined by Plenary Speakers Martin Chalfie, Harry Gray, Rhonda Craig, and Cope scholars Miguel Garcia-Garibay, Luis Campos, and William Dichtel who participate in a number of symposia including the Cope Symposium: “Molecules to Functional Supramolecular Materials”; “Supramolecular Assemblies and Metal-Organic Frameworks. Multisession chemical education symposia include High School Chemistry: New Approaches to Catalyze Change for YOU!!!”; “Reform Pedagogy in Undergraduate Chemistry”; and “Nuclear Power, Energy, and Safety.” Multiday computational chemistry symposia highlight “Dynamics of Molecular Processes: Theory, Simulations, Insight” and “Electronic Structure: Concepts and Applications.” Studies at the interface of biology and chemistry include “Cutting Edge of Biological Inorganic Chemistry”; “Structural and Functional Characterization of Proteins”; and “Catalysis and Biocatalysis.”

The 48 technical sessions and poster presentations also include “Advances in Forensics Chemistry”; “Chemical Applications of Chemometrics”; “Electrocatalysis”; “Emerging Environmental Contaminants”; “Finding Solutions to Environmental Challenges in Agriculture”; “Small-Molecule Inorganic Chemistry in the Southeast: Honoring Jerome Odom”; “Metal Complexes of Scorpionate and Related Ligands”; “Asymmetric Chemistry throughout the Southeast”; “Synthesis and Application of Biofunctional Nanomaterials”; “New Chemistry Toward Functional Polymeric Materials”; “Scattering Measurements of Polymers and Nanomaterials”; “Structure-Property-Relationships of Nanoscale Materials”; and “Women Chemists in the Southeast.”

Extensive activities for high-school chemistry teachers and undergraduate students are planned for the first day of the meeting, which begins on a Sunday concluding that evening with a Chemical Education poster session at the exhibit hall opening. Undergraduates are encouraged to submit posters and oral presentations to any of the symposia or technical sessions or to the Monday evening undergraduate poster session held in concert with the Sci-Mix social event.

ACS's Meeting Abstracts Programming System (MAPS) opens on April 11, 2016 for abstracts. Please visit either the symposium website or MAPS at maps.acs.org, to submit an abstract. Abstracts are due August 15, 2016
